Should I Hire a Ghostwriter?

Have you ever stared at a blank page, knowing exactly what you want to say but having no idea how to say it? That’s where I used to live. I’d open a document, shut it, open another, jot down some words, close it, and then give up, only to repeat the same process a few days later.

The greatest challenge with writing is not discovering what to say but how to say it. This takes thousands and thousands of hours of reps—hours you probably don’t have. So, what is ghostwriting?

I’ll be honest. The term “ghostwriting” sounded weird to me the first time I heard it. As an author of three books, I wondered why on earth anyone would pay someone to write a book for them. It sounded a lot like plagiarism and having someone else write a book only to pass it off as their own.

That’s when I had an epiphany. I decided I would work with authors, not for authors. After ghostwriting nearly thirty books over the past five years, I’ve realized there are two very different approaches to ghostwriting.

Approach A is when an author says, “I need a book to give me credibility, so I need to hire someone to create content that makes me look good.” I turn down these projects. Approach B is when an author says, “I have the knowledge and content, but I don’t know how to structure my material so that it can reach my target audience.” This is where I specialize.

When you hire me as a ghostwriter, the goal isn’t to outsource your voice. It’s to amplify it. You’re the expert in your field, the one with the story, the insights, or the big idea. But writing is its own craft. Just like you’d hire a designer to build a logo or an accountant to manage your books, a ghostwriter is a professional who takes your thoughts and turns them into compelling, polished content.

Great writing takes hours of research, outlining, drafting, and editing. If you're already juggling a business, leading a team, or building your personal brand, writing might always fall to the bottom of your to-do list. Hiring me as your ghostwriter lets you focus on what you do best and taps into what I do best.

Writing isn’t for everyone. Maybe you're great at speaking or teaching, but when you try to write, it comes out clunky or stiff. As a professional ghostwriter, I know how to shape words so they engage, inform, and convert. Whether it’s a book, a blog, or a newsletter, I can translate your raw thoughts into something that reads well and still sounds like you.

So, if you’ve got a book inside of you that needs to come out, but you feel stuck and need someone with professional expertise to get you across the finish line, I might be your guy. Together, we’ll take the thoughts in your head and bring them to life on a page.
